About Us

Heartlands Ecotours was founded by Phil Brown in 2021. Phil first worked as a tour guide in East Clare in the late 1990’s. In recent years Phil studied tourism management, and was awarded a first-class honours degree, specialising in carbon-neutral tourism. He coupled this experience and training with over 30 years of commitment to enjoying and protecting the environment… and thus created Heartlands Ecotours.

The International Ecotourism Society define ecotourism as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the wellbeing of local people and involves interpretation and education” (TIES, 2015). These three strands of ecotourism – Conservation, Communities and Interpretation – drive the vision for Heartlands Ecotours.

The mission of Heartlands Ecotours is to provide quality, environmentally-friendly experiences in East Clare and the Lough Derg area. Working as a tour guide in East Clare, Phil offers excursions for small groups into the wonderful natural surrounds of our beautiful county, with an emphasis on exceptional customer service.

Phil is a member of the Independent Tour Guides Association.
